Courage to Love

How much love you have in your life, how much you express, it is all up to you. The wonderful thing about love is, the more you give it, the more it expands and comes right back to you.

Have the courage to love, in all kinds of ways, in every direction. Many of our most important life lessons are around love. Our hearts crave to love and be loved.

There are many wonderful quotes about love by the poet Rumi, here are just a few:

“Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.” ~ Rumi

“Let yourself be drawn by the stronger pull of that which you truly love.” ~ Rumi

“Goodbyes are only for those who love with their eyes. Because for those who love with heart and soul there is no such thing as separation.” ~ Rumi

“This is love: to fly toward a secret sky, to cause a hundred veils to fall each moment. First to let go of life. Finally, to take a step without feet.” ~ Rumi

“Wherever you are, and whatever you do, be in love.” ~ Rumi

“Let yourself be silently drawn by the strange pull of what you really love. It will not lead you astray.” ~ Rumi

“Reason is powerless in the expression of Love.” ~ Rumi

“Gamble everything for love, if you’re a true human being.” ~ Rumi

“Love calls – everywhere and always.
We’re sky bound.
Are you coming?”
~ Rumi

“Love is the whole thing. We are only pieces.” ~ Rumi

The Calling

The upheaval in the world has a built-in silver lining, not yet revealed. Humanity is undergoing a complete overhaul in its value systems. That means how we view life and live it, as well as how much we value our planet and take care of it.

In spite of the fact that some of this is painful, I’m looking forward to the immense positive changes that are possible. How are you feeling about it? Your soul chose to be born into this life and experience these changes. Do you have a sense of purpose to be an instrument of positive change in these times?

Think of this as the biggest theatrical production that has ever taken place on Earth thus far. Will you just sit in the audience and wait for the outcome, or will you step onto the stage and play your part?

Change begins with your thoughts and ripples outward. As Mahatma Gandhi said, “Be the change you wish to see in the world”. You are part of the greater collective called humanity, and we are all part of One.

Polishing Your Mirror

Have you noticed the way that some experiences seem to repeat themselves in your life? You become irritated and perhaps even angry, wishing they would just “go away”. But here’s the rub…

When we resist our lessons, they simply come around again in another form. Learn it now or learn it later, it’s your choice. If you choose later, the lesson will likely be more extreme, until you just cannot ignore any more that it is something you are trying to learn.

When we become wise enough to see that life is not just “happening to us”, but that we attract the experiences and lessons we need to grow our souls, then it becomes somewhat smoother. The head bashing stops.

Observation and reflection are key to beginning to unlock and solve your life lessons.

Smoke in Our Eyes

As the familiar expression goes, “hindsight is 20/20”. We now see how fear has reshaped our society in the past year…

These words are from my blog post dated March 29, 2020:

Do you remember the wizard in Wizard of Oz? He used the classic “smoke and mirrors” magic act props to create the illusion of an all-powerful, omnipresent ruler of Oz.

What was his most powerful tool to manage people? FEAR. But when Dorothy’s dog Toto pulled back the curtain, a single little old (but power hungry) man was revealed, frantically pulling the levers to create the giant illusion in the great hall of Oz.

Right now our greatest fear, DEATH, has permeated every day existence with its grim presence. That fear has become tangible in the form of a daily burgeoning number. The monster is growing from a mouse to a roaring dragon right before our very eyes, its yawning mouth ready to swallow us in flames.

Strangely we are putting complete faith in those numbers, even though every country admits there is no consistent testing method and way of reporting the numbers worldwide. It is literally and figuratively “all over the map” globally. (For those not familiar with this expression, the definition from the dictionary: (All over the map, North American informal: in a disorganized or confused state.)

Consider that we are being consumed by something much more dangerous than any biological threat. Fear of death is expanding in the consensual collective mind.

We have the power to vanquish this dragon. We may not have control over the virus, but we do have the choice about our fear. We own it. We have the right to question. As Virginia Woolf said, “Lock up your libraries if you like; but there is no gate, no lock, no bolt that you can set upon the freedom of my mind.”

When we allow ourselves to be ruled by fear, we become paralyzed, we do not see clearly, and our perception and judgement are clouded. In the final analysis, what you believe and I believe about the viral numbers, our own mortality, and the fate of humanity, could make all the difference in the outcome of this.

Smoke and numbers.

Awakening Humanity

There is a spiritual revolution quietly brewing in the heart of humanity. A surging, monumental wave undulates persistently around the world. Can you feel it?

Isolation has had a way of removing our normal distractions this past year. Oh, we tried our best to fill up that newly available time with various projects and more social media. But that nagging feeling that our lives weren’t quite right in the first place, “what are we trying to get back to?“, has not gone away.

The curtain has been pulled aside, the yawning void has been revealed, and for some people that is scarier than any virus could ever be.

Questioning how we’ve been living our lives

I thought my life had meaning, now I’m not so sure. Why was I busting my butt all those mornings, commuting to a job I hated? Why did I put the dream of a big house before the dream of a happy and cohesive family? Why did I sacrifice my own dreams so I could try to measure up to society’s yard stick of success?

And on it goes. The monologue playing in your head will be different than the next person’s, but you get the idea. We are still in a time of extreme self-examination, as well as opening our eyes to the dysfunctional aspects of our societies.

Much of it is not pretty, so we are inclined to turn our eyes away. But wait! Isn’t that what we’ve been doing for too long now? Losing ourselves in our technological devices? Trusting that everything would be taken care of for us by external authority? Trusting that the formula for life that society insisted we adhere to was a good one? Trusting the message that we shouldn’t trust in ourselves, after all, what could we possibly know?

The big opportunity for change

To say that this time is important is hugely understating it. Humanity is riding the wave on the cusp of a gargantuan shift in consciousness. Change is a scary proposition and we have a tendency to avoid it at all cost. However, this current global situation has thrown down the gauntlet for you, me, and the rest of humanity. The big question hanging in the air, the pink elephant in the room is, will we rise to the occasion and create something better for ourselves?

Take the time to ask questions, and while you’re searching for the answers, listen not only to your head, but also to your heart and your gut. There’s a voice crying to be inside of you. It is your own, but it is also connected to all of humanity. Hear its song and feel its pulse. We are all inextricably connected.

Inspirational Quotes:

“Awareness is the greatest agent for change.”~ Eckhart Tolle

“Once the soul awakens, the search begins and you can never go back. From then on, you are inflamed with a special longing that will never again let you linger in the lowlands of complacency and partial fulfillment. The eternal makes you urgent. You are loath to let compromise or the threat of danger hold you back from striving toward the summit of fulfillment.” ~ John O’Donohue

“We are here to awaken from our illusion of separateness.” ~ Thich Nhat Hanh

“When you have once seen the glow of happiness on the face of a beloved person, you know that a man can have no vocation but to awaken that light on the faces surrounding him. In the depth of winter, I finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer.” ~ Albert Camus

“You have wakened not out of sleep, but into a prior dream, and that dream lies within another, and so on, to infinity, which is the number of grains of sand. The path that you are to take is endless, and you will die before you have truly awakened.” ~ Jorge Luis Borges

“You are never alone. You are eternally connected with everyone.” ~ Amit Ray

“The greatest hazard of all, losing one’s self, can occur very quietly in the world, as if it were nothing at all. No other loss can occur so quietly; any other loss – an arm, a leg, five dollars, a wife, etc., is sure to be noticed.” ~ Søren Kierkegaard

“A kind of light spread out from her. And everything changed color. And the world opened out. And a day was good to awaken to. And there were no limits to anything. And the people of the world were good and handsome. And I was not afraid any more.” ~ John Steinbeck
