There are two essential things, I believe, which bring happiness to people. One is to love and be loved. The other is to feel productive, to have a sense of purpose in life.
If we are lucky, we do work that we love. If we do not love our work (I have been
there, done that, and likely most of us have at some point in our lives), nonetheless, there is satisfaction in the expending of energy to build a life.
Building a life. Within the current scenario in society right now, let’s not lose sight of our desire, and our right, to build lives that we love. Much of our sense of fulfillment is rooted in our deep human drives.

Your posts are beautiful crafted and presented. A personal example from your life would really bring it home. I’d love to know more about your process to reach these wise conclusions.

Hmm, I shall have to think more about that for future posts, Rebecca. Particular to this post, suffice to say that there have been many twists and turns thus far in my life that have brought me to this place. Some of what I write is from personal experience, and some from pure observation of life as well. It is good to know that somehow I struck a chord with you, so thanks for commenting to let me know that. I will think about the “more personal” for future.

What I find in my memoir writing is the more personal the story, the more universal it is. People seem to recognize that and it resonates with them. : )

I guess I’m reticent about exposing too much of my private life. But, I could likely incorporate more personal examples that feel safe, rather than taking a “black and white” stance. I have done some of that in blog posts in past, and in story and poetry writing. Thank you, Rebecca!

Dear Gelin, are you sure about that? I went to your blog, and what I found there is some very heartfelt and powerful writing. For example, in “The Life I Imagined” you express that you work to give your Mama the life that she deserves. In that one statement, I see purpose and love. Your blog is new, and you are doing a lot of soul searching there. Keep going…

Our focus, and therefore our sense of purpose, evolves throughout our lives. Intention, passion, and perseverance are key.
